I'm sure everyone's idea of a beach read is different but for me the term means a captivating story that doesn't necessitate a dictionary or the internet's explanation of existentialism in order to read the book. It is a novel that can be thoroughly enjoyed either from a towel on a Maui beach or a lounge chair in Cabo as well as from the comfort of one's own bed.
When I set out on the road to write novels I never once intended to write something that you had to think too long and hard about. I only wanted to entertain. Knowing my limits, I try to write books that women exactly like me want to read. Just last night at a gathering of women and children in a friend's mosquito ridden backyard, someone asked "Who's read a good book lately? I need something quick." I recommended several and kicked my own self under the patio table for being so tardy that my book The Dream Jumper's Promise, is not ready to go for another month. Uggh. It would've been a perfect moment to call out my url. But, said mother, will be needing another book in two weeks or one, then another and another. And that's when I will hit everyone with the zinger that my book is the perfect BEACH READ. It is fast reading, easy to comprehend, mysterious, sexy and has a heroine and hero you cheer for.
I love to read Elin Hilderbrand, Marian Keyes, Jane Porter, Elizabeth Berg and the like. I also love to read thinker novels like Jodi Piccoult but not in succession. I need my BEACH READS and so, my fellow readers, I created this blog for women who want to be entertained, taken away for an hour a day to a romance, a tropical setting, a fancy life, a twisted mystery or whatever floats your boat.
Hail to the BEACH READ.
